Air travel have restarted at Edinburgh Airport after a major air traffic control outage halted all operations.

All incoming and outgoing flights were halted due to an technical fault that was reported at approximately 08:30.

A number of travelers reported being stuck in planes on the runway while the issue persisted.

Services Recommence with Ongoing Delays

A statement indicated at 10:40 that services were back online, and thanked passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

However, significant disruption are likely to continue throughout the day. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with numerous other services subject to postponements.

An airport representative had earlier anticipated that dozens of flights could be impacted.

"Passengers are advised to check directly with their airline for the current status on their booked journeys," was the consistent advice.

Cause of the Chaos

Officials linked the widespread suspension to an technical fault with its air traffic control provider.

Flyers should still plan to check the status of their flight before heading to the terminal as knock-on effects are worked through.
