A Ton of Anime News Arrived During the Holidays
The winter break offer a wealth of activities much better than scanning the headlines: opening presents, indulging in festive fare, and employing deep breathing to refrain from yelling at loved ones. Hopefully you were able to do all these things and more. However, the world of entertainment doesn't go on vacation, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. A slew of exciting news items came out over the holidays, and if you didn't see any, here is a roundup of the biggest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Is Moving Forward (In 2027)
Truly the biggest piece of news, the widely-criticized troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to halt the series' continuation. The show will come back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—such a distant date they might as well have labeled it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be at the helm. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the outset, which could be taken as a good sign. But, the key visual for the new episodes is identical to the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This suggests that, by now, they are probably teasing the fans.
Ruri Dragon Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has built a standing for being an elite animation studio, making its mark not just for the exceptional quality of its output but for the ethical practices of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime adapted from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, perhaps the best-known magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved a huge following when it launched in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the mangaka's health issues. When it resumed publication with a lighter schedule, the series proved it still retained the fans' affection and goodwill, and now fans are ecstatic about the impending KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Is Getting a Follow-Up Now in the Works
Kingdom is the highly popular, epic Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only just received an English localization, but the anime has been airing for years, and its sixth season was a further excellent entry. As it happens that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been announced as currently being made, and it will probably air in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
A further studio renowned for the artistic merit of its productions, Science Saru has delivered masterpieces of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the actual historical person of Fatima, an prominent woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and intriguing visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my must-watch list.
The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Season Two
Right after the airing of episode 24, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a second season. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific premiere date has not yet been announced.
